Somali Market respects your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, how we store it, and your choices.
1. Who we are
Somali Market is a marketplace mobile application for buying and selling in Somalia. It is operated by Zakariya Adan Team.

2. Data we collect
- Account: email address, display name, authentication provider (Google or email/password)
- Seller profile: Somali phone number, hashed 4-digit PIN (never stored in plain text), verification status
- Listings: titles, descriptions, photos, price, location, category, and related metadata
- Messages: chat content between buyers and sellers about listings
- Device & app settings: language preference (Somali/English), theme, and basic technical data needed for security and notifications
- Payment-related data (when enabled): mobile money phone number used for in-app payments — processed through our secure server, not stored in the app binary
3. How we use data
- To operate the marketplace: show listings, enable chat, calls, and saved ads
- To verify sellers (phone + PIN) and enforce posting rules
- To send one-time passwords (OTP) to your email for PIN or password reset via our Firebase Cloud Function and SMTP
- To send push notifications for new messages when you allow notifications
- To prevent abuse, spam, and fraud
- We do not sell your personal data to third parties
4. Storage and security
- Data is stored on Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore database, Cloud Storage for images, Cloud Functions)
- PINs are stored using a one-way hash with salt — we cannot read your PIN
- Merchant payment API keys are stored server-side only; they are not embedded in the app
- No system is 100% secure. Use a strong password and protect your device
5. Sharing
- Other users see your public listing information and messages you send them in chat
- Google Sign-In is subject to Google's Privacy Policy when you use that option
- We may disclose data if required by law or to prevent fraud, harm, or abuse
6. Permissions
The app may request:
- Camera & photos — to take or upload listing images
- Microphone — optional voice messages in chat
- Phone — to call a seller from a listing
- Notifications — to alert you about new chat messages
- Internet — required for all app features
7. Your rights
- Request account help or data correction by emailing us
- Delete your listings and sign out at any time
- Change language and theme in Settings
- Deny optional permissions (some features may not work)
8. Children
The app is not intended for users under 13 years of age.
9. Changes
We may update this policy. The "Last updated" date at the top will change. Material changes may be communicated in the app or by email where appropriate.
